Peer group SpLinter receive new funding for events and social activities.
This two-year project led by participants aims to raise awareness of access issues faced by young people with learning disabilities living in rural areas of Northumberland. The project will encourage participation in local activities through organising social events and external activities, including meeting with local organisations, attending markets and employment fairs, sports, volunteering and accredited training.
A weekly support group will also provide peer support and time for events planning and training for participants.
Chris Lunn, spokesperson for Health Lottery in the North East & Cumbria said: “The funds raised through Health Lottery North East & Cumbria is changing and improving lives. It was clear that supporting SpLinter Group would have a great benefit to the local community.” To date, over £5.5 million has been raised for good causes groups in the North East & Cumbria through The Health Lottery.
